The "Cablenews-American" of February 27, which was delivered at this office yesterday morning, contained the following telegram dated Washington, Februai 26:—Secretary of State Lansing has directed Mr. Walter Hines Page, the U. S. Ambassador at the Court of St. James's, to demand from the British Government the immediate release of the German and Turkish subjects who were removed from the China Mail Steamship Company's liner China on the high seas. The China flies ican flag... In this case the United States Government takes the stand that a belligerent nation is not entitled to stop neutral vessels on voyages to neutral ports in order to seize subjects of enemy countries. The fact that foreigners are in question is not regarded of consequence, for in this instance as in a very recent one, the United States will refer to the famous Trent case in the Civil War.
