To the Editor of the "Norra-Cuina Dairy New Smr,—Really, the _seli-satisfaction of some people is amazing! 1 am moved to this outburst by a sentence in a letter from "Qnlookes"" on open-air concerts in which he airily alludes to Shanghai as "the reputed centre of intellectual thought in the Far East." By whom is it so regarded and what foundation is there for such an assertion? That it is the centre of money-grubbing, jazzing, snobbery, frivolity and even vice in the Far East I am willing to allow, but the claim to be an intellectual centre is too funny for words.
