KIATING, SZECHUAN

(prom ovR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) its good services an order for higher rates on mail matter came from somewhere that practically "shuts up shop" for the Imperial Chinese Post Office in Szechuan. An ordinary daily paper can be sent from Shanghai to Chungking by paying seventeen taels postage per year on it!! Parcels can be carried at double the rate paid on letters! Tt all seems to depend on the zones. Some of the zones have steam and some don't have steam. The strange thing is, that a zone without steam costs so much more than-one with steam.. That must be because it is so hot up here in the interior and the demand for zones without steam is. greater. What one would. like to know is, how folks up here in the interio: are going to get anything to read? We might get news from the outside world sent by telegraph. It would cost but little' more. We could do without th advertisements and that would bring th cost down a little.
