After a gap of about four years, the Shanghai Horse and Pony Show' was resuscitated on Saturday, with pleasure able results to a very large company of sightseers, as well as to the numerous competitors. The weather was fine. The arrangements (save in one very small detail) worked without a hitch, thanks to the ceaseless attention of Mr. F. J. Burrett (hon. sec.). The one detail was the supply of programmes. A ridiculously small number had been printed, and all were sold out out before the bell rang for the first competition. The committee was composed of Messrs. C. R. Burkill, ELE. Keylock, D. Landale, W. Meyerink, L. Midwood, 8. W. Pratt, R. W. Shaw, W. F. Wingrove, Major Watson, H. Gardner (hon. treas.), and F. J. Burrett (hon. sec.)
The Judges were Messrs. W. Meyerink, W. Pratt, and R. W. Shaw (for the hack classes), Messra. 8. W. Pratt, R. W. Shaw and Major Watson (for the jumping and driving).
The playing of the Town Band, and the tea provided at the Race Club, eked out the happiness of the event.
The tests of ladies' driving did not seem to be unduly difficult, and only one lady grazed a post. Mrs. Snethlage who had handicapped herself by undertaking to drive a pair, and was further obliged to act as pioneer over the not clearly defined course, handled the big ba: beautifully. The mere outsider was.at a loss to understand why no prize went her way. In the horse jumping. Mr. Henry
