The Petersburg at Work in the Red Sea

London vid Bombay, 13th July.

Reuter's correspondent at Perim wires that the British O. S. 8S. Menelaus reports that the Russian Volunteer steamer Petersburg, with eight guns on deck, stopped her and the steamer Crewe Hall on the 11th inst. south of Jeddah, detained them both for four hours overhauling their papers, and then steamed northward, The bags of coal on the decks of these Volunteer steamers were, of course, intended to hide their guns, and enable them to get through the Dardanelles as harmless merchant ships.—Ep.
