The Fourth of July

The Glorious Fourth was celebrated by the American members of our community a picnic at West Lake.

There was a this year everything was propitious. day while warm was most pleasant, and the time passed away all too soon.

By the way we are wondering when the advent of our new U. 8. Consul at Hangchow is to occur. Apart from the brief statement in the "Daily News" of recent date we have heard nothing.

Vacation.

Most of the Mission and Government schools in Hangchow close this week and next. All seem to have put in a term of good work and we have heard of no outbreaks of insubordination, ete., of which there were several cases last year.

Several of our number have already gone to Mokanshan; the rest, that is of those who can get away, will follow soon, A few are going to Japan in spite of the war and some to the north of China.
