There are now four missions working in Siangtan—the London Mission, the Alliance Mission, the United Evangelical Mission and the Presbyterian Mission. 'They all have foreigners resident in the city and the work pretty well organised. 'The Presbyterians have a boys' school that has had an average attendance of over twenty boys during the ast year; it} is self-supporting and the only' boarding school in the province of Hunan. There will be a girls' boarding scheat opened in the fall, and it is hoped that a hospital will be built in the very near future. Negotiations are going on uow for th purchase of a site: The United Evangelical mission have purchased " largo place in the seventeenth ward and expect to fit it up at once. There will be a fine preaching hall in front and residence in the back.
