Wagons Lits Express

designed for use on the Chinese railways between Yingkou and Poking. This train, taken north of Tashihchiao, once reached the Russian Settlement at Newchwang. It never got so far as Messrs. Bush Brothers' compound as somewhere reported, and its ultimate fate is undetormined. Some parts are lying on the river bank at Yingkou waiting the arrival of the train now in Japanese hands, 'THE sivouTcH has come to an inglorious end after all. She was blown up by the Russians at Yachichang, 35 li south of old Newchwang, on 4th August. Their reason was that they were attacked on four successive nights, they knew not whether by the Japanese or by Hunghutse, the enemy never showing, but firing from the reeds and kouliang, and from behind the mud embankments common in this part of the country to control the flood water from the river in the rainy season. Several. bullets from Mauser rifles penetrated the ship's sides.

'The Russians have also destroyed, or dismantled, the five steam-launches they took from Newchwang,' the crows proceeding towards Heinmintun for Mukden. The wreckage has blocked the. deep channel at Ertahbien, and this will have to be cleared if the bean boats from the north are to trade with Newchwang.
