Fire in London Post Office

TELEGRAMS DELAYED — London, Aug

A fire broke out in the new Post Office in St. Martin's-lo-Grand the result of a wire fusing, which paralyzed the telegraph system for three hours last evening. A thousand operators, mostly girls, were very busily engaged in the huge provincial gallery on the third floor when a cloud of smoke belched from the test box where the wires serving the whole country were concent The officials threw sand on the fire but their efforts were of no avail and they were driven out by suflofumes from the cutty-perchs coils beneath the flooring. All lett the building in a well disciplined anner. The firemen were eu! and the fire was extinguished. It will take days to restore the service.
