MOM A CORRESPONDENT

2nd April.

Tue Steaen Comrantes, As this place is becoming more and more important, I think your readers will be glad to hear from here oocasionally. There are three companies which have steamers running to Siangtan, the greater part of the year from Hankow. A Japanese Company, Butterfield and Swire, and Jardine, Matheson & Ca., besides numerous Chinese steam launches. With the exception of one month the steamers might have run all winter, When the water got low Jardine, Matheson' steamer the Changwo grounded in th Tungting Lake, and has been th until now.
