To the Editor of the "Norra-Cnixa Dairy Now:
Sir,—With regard to recruits to the war from Shanghai, may I ask what provision it is suggested to make by the Municipality. and she leading British firms here for the wives and children, both temporary ily, and also in the event of these becoming widows and orphans stranded in the East? Even - reservists' wives are very badly provided for; volunteers' wives have, I understand, no security even at Home, but there at least they are among relations and friends and countless benevolent agencies. This is no place for a European widow to bring up children, and where even recruits themselves cannot secure a free passage, ik steamship companies passage to @ volunteer's widow wishing to go Home? It might be added that long residence in the East leaves some of us with very fow friends to look to oven at Home. am, ete., Shanghai, Dec. 10.
