San Ko Lin Sen's Folly

It is noticeable that the portion of the urna rampart, known as "San Ko Lio Bou's Folly," made by that great Chinese geveral about fifty 0 to keep the foreigners out of Tientsin, is not now being kept in repair as formerly. That concessions has been the German concession, or partially duced and ut as part of a publ garden, as in the British concession. The Tmoat outside the mud wall, which con-neets with the river by a water gate, is retained for use. Outside of this, the land which has been waste land, for a Jong time at least, is lending itself to various uses. Boveral village: ing up, and vegetable gardens and nurser-los are beginning to appear. Whatever cluded in extra-mural concessions, is likely to be appropriated in some such way, The moat will help forward any such movement. Somewhat, further out, barracks are being erected for the accommodation of the British troops, They certainly ought to have better quar-tors than Ubyy have occupied thus far. Those barracks will be in the open country-and well located for sault: ry requirements.
