The suggestion which we made some days ago that, in view of the excess profits tax which is being instituted at home, Shanghai rubber companies should tax tham-selves for the benefit of the war, has been received with general approval. There are, however, some who think that until it is known for certain whether the tax be made applicable in the Far East it would be premature to pass self-denying ordinance.
