A Good Wheat Crop

We do not remember to hava. seen so much standing wheat nor wheat in finer condition than that of this year. It is next to certain that wages were never before so high in this section as during the wheat harvest season. A silver dollar and three meals was about the daily wage. The labour demand was higher and the supply lower than usual. The Transvaal, the army, and the police department, have all absorbed a good many young men.

Uniformed Police are now to be found in the large towns their presence making distinctly for better order. In one town we noticed that they were taking the place of the usual voluntary organisation in guarding the standing grain, duty of considerable importance.
