The tailor's cutter, Aaron Ellis, charged with the manslaughter of Gunner Sampson of the Garrison Artillery, was committed for trial to-day. With unimportant changes of detuil,- the story previously told is confirmed by the depositions. A Indy complained to the defendant that a soldier had insulted and struck her. He chased the soldier, who is now said to have been under the influence of liquor, and knocked him down. The soldier was afterwards picked up with a fractured skull, and the prisoner was arrested in the billiard room of the Hongkong Hotel.—A witness says that the feeling among the soldiers is vindictive. That is perhaps natural. My assertion of popular sympathy with the accused referred to civilians, and still holds good.
