In piece goods the period under: review has shown 'a moderately good trade demand. Local values are firm, and in the case of well~ known chops repeat orders appear to have been fairly frequent. This has especially been the case with goods fabricated from American cotton, but in most cases fine Egyptian cloths have been on too. high a level to admit of business.
Local firms report improved cle ces in many eases, The nearer River ports, such as Chinki ig, and. northern centres such Tsingtao, Tientsin and Newchwang, beer absorbing cargo with a of freedom, and the quantities sent there are larger than has recently been the case. There are, however, conflating reports of the effect of the boycott agitation and some of the Yangtze ports are said to be putting the prescribed measures Very seriously into operation.
