A mooting was held at the Race Club on Friday for the purpose of deciding whether or not an international walking match on similar lines to that which took place last year should be held this autumn, There was a large attendance us interested.
Pelham L, Warren was voted to Chair. Ho expressed the opinion that all sport was good, but that International sport such as they hnd in Shanghai was best of all. As the poot had he known anything about it, "one touch of sport makos the whole world kin." (Laugliter.) Last year's walking match having been a great success he hoped there would be one this year. Mr. MoKie had x few ideas to give to the meeting.
Mr. McKie eaid that having hi the question of another internat Walking-match talked about he, in conjunction with Messrs. Burrett and Tnokson, hud issued an invitation to prominent sportsmen to turn up and say whether they wished last year's walking match repeated. Tucker seconded, and the proposition was carried unanimously.
Mr. Burrett then proposed that the following gentlemen should serve on the Pearce and G. Lanning (England), with power to add to their number.
This was also carried unanimously.
As no one seemed anxious to give any {hints to the Committes, Mr. J. McKto, behalf of the Committes gave a fow suggestions to those present. He quoted some suggestions of Mr, Timm's, the chief of which was that the competition should be hel later in the year, say the third week in November. The competition would probably be all the better for giving the men longer to train. Another suggestion first came from Mr. Burrett who, in order to get over the difficulty of the congested state of the traffic at the starting and finishing points, thought it would be better to start near Bubbling Well and finish opposite the grand stand after going once round the race course, The spectators would then see the finish from the enclosure and there would not be the crush and cons quent discomfort that there was last year.
Mr. Heidora called attention to the question of pace-makers, who he said, Were not a success last year.
