CHINA AND THE ANGLO- JAPANESE ALLIANCE

Peking, 3rd October, The impression made upon: China by the new Anglo-Japanese' Alliance is far greater thun its effect upon Russian, Germany, or France. Their Majesties, the Emperor and the Empress Dowager, are quite satisfied with the Treaty, and Prince Ching thinks that by the: new Alliance China has been saved from the incessant intrigue and aggression which Russia, Germany, and France have hitherto cast around her, and that from now the integrity of her territory and the protection of China's interests is guaranteed.

BE. Viceroy Yuan Shih-kai is also impressed as to the benefits the Alliance between Great, Britain and Japan will confer upon China.—
