For the Consideration of Chess Players

To the Editor of the "Nowrn-Ouwa Datny News."

Sim—Now the days are drawing and the long evenings will soon be here, may Task your assistance in proposing an idea which, I venture to think, may have a certain interest for some of your renders.

T refer fo those who play and are interested in that greatest of all games.—Chess.

So far as I know there is no Chess Cub in Shanghai, but i a cosmopolitan community as this there must be many men who play the game and would like to meet others to play with.

International Chess Club here ought to be a success, for the expenses of running it should not be very great—the hire of a room for a couple of nights a week and some boards and sts of men.

I venture to suggest that all gentlemen who would be willing to support the idea should send in their names to me, care of the Shanghai Club, and then, if" sufficient number respond to justify it, a meeting might be called to consider the founding of a Chess Club.

Thanking yo assistance you ren to thi:

Mr. Editor, for the jer in giving publicity Tam, ete., W. B. Lockwanr.
