Judgement has been given in the King's Bench Division for the Malacca Plantations, Ld. and Messrs. Lewis & Peat, in the action brought against them by tha Michelin Rubber Company for damages for alleged breach of contract.
It was stated that 150 tons of rubber, bought by the plaintiffs in October, 1918, from the Mialaccal Company, were shipped by Japanese steamer from Singapore without the authority of the plaintiffs at a wuch higher rate of freight than would have been payable under the plaintiffs' arrangement with the French Government.
The Malacca Company said they shipped the rubber on the instruction of Messrs. Lewis & Peat, as agenta for the plaintiffs, who subsequently ratified the shipment, and, as no French Government freight space was available during the contract period, the plaintiffs suffered no damage.—Reuter, November Rubber Output Henrietta Estate 29,854
