Daan 81,—We received your kind lotter of the 22nd inst. the contents of which had all our attention.
In reply we bog to point out that we think there rise from the widening of the road to our ground as with our western front. age we are advised not to build over the whole front, as we should like to do, but to leave free about 20 feet to the south of our dwelling house in order to get the necessary sir and light which we would not get over the road in summer, To compare our case with the of the owner of the lot opposi unjust. On th side you have a great deep piece of land the contribution made towards widening the road works out to fractions of 1 per cent of the value and which is avery light tax especially considering the large unearned increment of the value of the ground of recent years, We, however, have paid the full value for our land' #0 that the surrendering free of the strip you require would moan to puta tax of about 4 per cent our property. We cannot help thinking that the Land Commissioners meant by "similar contribution " in their note to ease XXX to which you refer that a contribution " of the same proportion" to the size and value of the ground benefited should be borne by the owners of the property opposite. Otherwise it would be obviously unjust, As we already explained to Mr. Mayne the aurrendoring of the required strip even against payment in full is very great sacrifice to us for we lose much valuable space which we badly need.
We do not know for which consider tion our northern neighbours have surrendered their much smaller piece froe but we respectfully hope lat the Council will do full justice claim.
Wo are, Door Sir, Your obedient servants, Cura Exroxt-Iupont & Base p. p. J. Gnopruasy.
