The Chinese Volunteers

To the Editor of the "Nonta-Cuixa Dairy News."

Srs,—A paragraph has appeared in your paper during this woak that has not taken mo quite by surprise.

It will be within the memory of many of your readers that some time ago a letter was addressed to you on the subject of a Chinese Volunteer Corps.

Taking " walk outside the limite of the Settlement the other evening I came upon, s I imagined, a unit of the 8. V. C. keeping up their training. showed me Volunteers, euphonioualy styled a Cadet Corps"

We have had Chinese soldiers round us for years, but a lot of ragemufins armed with bird-cages, fans, and umbrellas could scarcely be a menace to the Settlement even in time of stress. A thousand hot-headed irresponsible students, however, armed with modern weapons and superstitious frenzy, menace at any time, and should occupy the attention of our City Fathers. This Corps may be seen ore evesiog now 00 patch of waste land 1 ever}

just beyond the Railway Station.
