Across a Turnip Field

After the first morning, the Ger mans never left their trenches to attack, there was a lot of rifle and shell fire, however, and we had a fair share of casualties. A level turnip field lay in front of us and gave us a splendid field of fire, but what damage we did I don't know. Some of the enemy in front of us wore khaki, and [am told a favour ite trick is to shout "Dont fire, we are the so and so's,"" another little where Company"

Our " on. everything in front of us, and we did so.

The O. C. of our company got a very nice little chit from the Gen Brigadier) saying that he ap the fact that we had a of the trench during daylight, but they were mostly very cheery and brave. The North of Ireland certainly puts out fine fellows, I could not have believed they could have been so steady till I saw it.
