The programme of the annual rit meeting of the 8. V. C., which will lo held at the Rifle Range from the 30 instant till the 7th proximo, the entries for which close on the 21st instant, has now been issued.
In comparing the programme with Inst year's it will be seen that th majority of the events remain tiv same. The Skirmishing Conpetitie ranges have been increased 200 yank ths bringing the event wore in line with active service conditions, The Ladies' Prize ranges have been altered to 200 and 700 yards, this Competition is "open only members and staff of the 8. instead of being an open event in the past. The number of petitors entering for this competi tion alone has hitherto been vey small: special arrangements hate bl to be made to enable them to shot and xpevial conditions laid down rgarting arms to be used,: x0 that it considered advisable not to throw this event open again.
Tu the General Rules there area for alterations to be noted. "The beck sight may not be tilted. The shine ind gauge sight as éxaued to the 8.1.0, ust be used." Tt appears that al rifles issued to the 8.V.C. ar fitted the notched sliding vio gauge sight, and that there are straight-bar windganges unless the V hax been filled up. This mile vil, probably, cause dissatisfaction awongt some of the more experienced shots who are accustomed to the elf sight: and to the practice of shooting ore the bar instead of through the The Bisley Rule regarding this yfthat "sights must be strictly la accordance with those issued vib the particular pattern of Goron ment Service rifle sed ly the petitor." It is gowerally acknomlder that more accurate shooting. is pose when sighting over te bar, but the general introduction to. Sbaxhai_of sliding windgauges fitted it ight it seems reasonable enough it compulsory for all It V would be wed the Home othe ties have even made the sight coarser than Special Asggregate Prizes). This Cow. petition ie distin from the Axgregate, und is designed to sive the newest recruit who takes an inlets shooting an opportunity of winuiug+ prize at " Corps Meeting.
