There is happily a strong probabi that within the next few days the trouble over the Transvaal Indians will be at anend. What the nature of the compromise is I do not know; but I do know on excellent authority that the Home Government has brought very strong pressure on the Government of the Transvaal to make concession in the matter. Mr. H. Cox, the very independent Liberal member for Preston, who has championed the cause of the native Indians through thick and thin, has given notice of an amendment to the address censuring the Government for having failed to employ the authority of the Crown for the protection of His Majesty's Indian jects; but it has been purposely pat late stage in the debates in the hope that in the meantime the matter will have been settled. Evidently the Government has become alarmed st the strength of feeling in this country on the matter, and at the effect it will have in India, It is certainly pity that the influence which promises to have its effect now was not exerted upon General Botha's Government before the Royal assent.
