The result of last Saturday's athletic meetings has improved the prospects of the Empire's representatives getting the better of Uncle Sam's cracks in the Olympic track and field athletic events. That the greatest number of Olympic events will be won by representatives of the Empire, fe gone conclusion, but the Unit athletes are very keen on beating us in the purely athletic events at the Stadium. It will be a near thing, and in the writer's opinion it is about an even money chance. The performances of J. W. Morton and T. H. Just last Saturday naturally take one more hopeful. The former's 10} secs. on grass at Crewe makes it look as though he may win his fifth consecutive 100 yards championship on July 4 and possibly show "evens" for the distance. The victory of J. P. George in the scratch 220 yards is also another matter for satisfaction. He broke down at the Olympic Trials, but now shasike appears to be all right again, mart ty the Olympic Games, look to him to do something
VoUaHT's SPLENDID wiv.
Perhaps the finest of the many good performances at the Crewe meeting was G. BR. Voight's success in the three miles level race. He came out with splendid burst of speed near the end, and to leave A. Duncan 12 yards, and A. J. Robertson 17 yards, in the last furlong, means fast finishing, while the watch only recorded 14 mins. 30% secs. Heffron of Bloemfontein ran well in this, and in finish io, ith just got incide 16 mine, which beats anything he has previously nccomplished. Heffron has now gone to Newbury (his native place), where he will train specially for the Marathon Race and he promises to be a worthy representative of the British Empire and South Africa in particular. The field included Svanborg and Petterson of Sweden, but ither had a chance j, against the others named, though Svan. borg beat Duncan several times in Sweden last year. sust's DOUBLE.
The outstanding feature of the Civil Service Sports at Stamford Bridge wes the performance of T. H. Just. The Cantab ran the first half mile of s relay race in 1 min. 583 secs. and less than an hour later won the level half mile in 1 min. 69 sees. He is not yet properly fit, so that two such performances on the loose Stamford Bridge track and with a -may expect something very good from strong wind blowing, shows that we
him at the Olympic Games.
