London vii Bombay, August 2.
Driving to the Selamlik on Friday the Sultan stood up in his carriage all the way, acknowledging the cheers of the people and the troops. Afterwards he received the whole Diplomatic Body, to whom he stated that he hoped for the support of the Powers; and he assured them of his firm resolve to respect the Constitution.
There is a strong anti-Sultan feeling at Adrianople, the headquarters of the Second Army Corps. Loyal placards have been torn down and a meeting has been held in the Public Garden protesting against cheering the Sultan. Messages have been sent to Constantinople declaring that the army will not tolerate any trifling with the Constitution—Reuter.
