Sir,—Since returning from war service a few months ago, I have frequently heard from fellow members of the United Services Association and others how generously many local firms have dealt with their employees in the matter of payment of part wages while on active service, bonus on return, ete. This is highly creditable to the firms concerned and is greatly appreciated by the men themselves, but it is worthy of remark that in no case has this generosity been extended to those masters, officers, and engineers of our ships who served in the Royal Navy during the war.
