The New Radio Service

From the nuniber of inquiries. we have receiving following our original announcement on broadcasting, from dead hich must be an encouraging sign to the promoters of the new Association. An advertisement will be found in this week's paper under the "China Broadcasting states the case for the "formation of such Association in brief, and leaves it up to those in possession of radio sets, or otherwise interested, to give brondeasting a new lease of life, or. let it die a natural death in Shanj hai, A request addressed to the China Broadcasting Association, 17 The Bund, will bring copies of the memorandum of association and membership application forms, without obligation to support the Association oF not, Several inquirers have raised the question of the cost and purchase of apparatus, a phase of the subject on which many are ill informed. We find that a complete receiving apparatus may be purchased for the niodext sum of $10; the listener, however, is restricted to the use of head phones, and the selectivity of the set (its ability to select which brondeasting is wanted and shut out that which is not) is limited. An expenditure of $125 provides all the apparatus necessary to hear a denired programme by means of a loud speaker, assuming that an outdoor "aerial" is feasible; while will provide sets that will operate loud speaker by moans of an indoor aerial, or even without one, figure obtains the last scientific construction combined with beautiful cabinet work. The whole of this range of receiving apparatus is available in Shanghai and there ig little doubt but that increased demand will wi the range and cheapen the cost.

It will be of further interest to our readers to know that arrangements are being made by the China Brond-casting Association with the "North-China Daily News" to broadcast a daily service of pres" news, together ly with stock and exchange informa. tion. This is contingent, of course, on the support which is forthcoming justifying the Association in giving effect to their plans. We unde stand that the service will be initiated at an early date if the support accorded to it is at all encouraging.
