EVANGELISTIC MEETINGS AND "PROTOCOLS"

To the Editor of the Nonri-Ciina Daly News."

Sir,—It has been brought to our notice that there is a misconception the minds of not a fow that in some way the former organization Known as the Shanghai Evangelistic Meetings, which for the past few weeks has been conducting evangel istic in different parts of the city of Shanghai in which the Rev, J.

Flacks was the principal speaker, was in part, responsible for the publishing of the Ching edition of "Protocols." In order that we may tate clearly our position pertaining to this matter the business committee of this former organization usk" to be permitted to make the following statement.

In the minutes of the business commit tow under date of November 3, when the question of the use of literature for the meetings under consideration the followi resolution was passed: "Resolved, that no literature which would ome under the heading of anti-Bolshevistic propaganda shall distributed in any of the meetings under the nuspieies of the Shanghai Evangeliatic Meetings, and that this same position shall prev all tHe advertising matter to the meetings This action was taken more than two weeks before Mr. Flacks arrived in China from America, which date, to be exact, was November 19. It, no doubt, is true that the fact thi about that time the China edition of "Protocols" first made ite appearance in Shanghai adds colour to the misconception that both Mr. Flacks and also the organization under whose nuspicios he was to conduct meetings wore in some way responsible for the publishing of this work. What might seem to make it even more plausible than this might possibly be the ense is the fact that the publisher of "Protocols" was among the original movers of the Shanghai Evangelistic Meotings and who were instrumental in securing the services of Mr. Flacks for these meetings Tt is only just to Mr. Flacks to aay that as soon asghe learned of the issuing of the "Protocols" he forthwith had an interview with the Publisher and in unmistakable terms made it lear what his position was in regard to the issuing of this work, that he was altogether opposed to the "Protocols," and that he was placed in the awkward position of having to sever his connection with the Shanghai Evangeistic Meetings. As a result of this interview. the publisher of "Pro-tools" offered his resignation from official connection with the evangel istic meetings. In the minutes of the business committee, dated November 25, dealing with this matter it is stated that the resignation was Presented by the publisher "since there were those who objected to his publishing of the China edition of 'Protocols.' The resignation was accepted. All this goes to show conclusively that neither Mr, Plaeks nor the business committee were in way responsible for the pub-Yishing of this work, and that they 1 were not in sympathy with it, But in order to make his position perfectly clear before the general public Mr, Flacks rented a hall at his own expense.and declared to a full house why he believed that "Protocols" could not be charged as originating from the Jewish people a3 a race, Thanking you for your kindness in permitting us to make use of your columns for this statement, anti tresting that we have made our Position clear to all.

We are, on behalf of the committee.

Tirzopons L. S, Sune.

Secretary.
