Chinese Customs Tariff

London, July 6.

Replying to Mr. Robert: Waddington (Coalition Unionist) in the House of Commons to-day, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, Sir William Mitchell-Thomson, said that he was not aware that the Chinese Government was proposing to raise the Customs duty from five to 10 per cent. He gathered that it was proposed to revise the tariff in order to increase the duties to the equivalent of' an effective five per cent. and that the Treaty Powers were considering this course.—Reuter.
