'The recent occurrences in Shang-huai have no} been Jong. in finding an echo in the Wu-loan centro. 'On Monday, the Students' Association discussed action in Wuchang and on Tuesday, all the Government schools in' this centre unlikely were cut on strike, To-day the were occupying their idle posting notices all over the city.
The strike of workers in Hankow practically is over, or. rather was over, for there are rumours of a fresh outbreak this morning. Last Saturday many hours were spent} in negotiations between the representatives of both sides,—The spokesmen finally chosen by the workers to represent them were] two school-teachers from Wuchang. The discussion lasted till an early hour on Sunday morning, by which time the eleven demands all had been dealt with, The general result is a slight increase of pay for the workers, but most of the demands were shown to be perfectly Tidieulous, For instance, the demand that the employers shall pro-nisse not to ill-treat the workers reminds one of the famous lawyer's question, "Have you left off beat ing your wife yor? The only! possible answer is, ""She never was beaten and is not likely to be."
