Through Arnhold & Ca.
The new established acronautical department of Messrs. Arnhold Ca, Ltd., which is under charge of Captain W. E, F. Jones, DFC, CAC has just secured contract to Supply four de Havilland Gipsy Moth afreraft to the Chinese Aviation Bureau at Nanking.
It is interesting to note that this contract was seeitved in the face of keenest competition by German and American suppliers and the British Gipsy Moth was only decided upon after the technienl qualities of various aircraft were examined very minutely by Chinese Aeronaul cal specialists in the light of fullest wssible service for operation in China. These aircraft are exactly Gimilar to the Gipsy Moth aircraft recently sold to the Aviation Bureau in Hankow by this company, It is further interesting to note that these Moth aircraft are all be fitted with the Handley-Page automatic slotted wing control. 'This now patent slot when attached to aircraft very considerably me creases the stability of the aireract flight' and very considerably reduces the possibility of a eras through stalling the machine, and also has a remarkable effect minimizing the possibility of a spin through the loss of sufficient lifting fore on either wing of the aircraft due to technical ereer on the part of the pilot or for other reasons common in ties, It is also interesting to note that these Gipsy Moth Aircraft can be converted for operation from the Innd or from water by simply elians ing the undercarriage, which is a matter of about one hour's work.
