Tang, of course, has done this th the assistants he had brought wi Liuchow from Canton, where he was many years in charge of the Canton Agricultural Experiment Station ant Porest Reserve, in fadilition to be the dean of the Agricultural College. Many of the assistants were with the station and college in Canton, and some of the sub-heads in the Institute wore former students of Mr. Tang's in Poking, Changsha, or Canton, where The had done teaching in chemistry and agriculture, The only complaints of the work of the Institute during the past year may have been that it has built barns, stockyards, and chicken-house more costly than some of the homes of the farmers in Kuangsh, while there have been experts "for agronomy, forestry, animal husbandry, horticulture, and veterinary physicians and chemists to prevent anima} and plant diseases, and many farmers in the more remote districts are still opposed to advice and instruction for reform and still are using quack medicines, The Institute, under Mr, Tang's dreetion, has made an a survey of the pro vince, gathering native plants studying existing methods, examine ing the soil, and spreading new of farming.
