A receipt was given for them but nothing was removed until the missionary could come and prove that it was not of} wrbidden manufacture. More delays and finally the foreigner was allowed to open up the cases. Ex-sept for a ease of milk, practically everything had to be left to the tender mercies of the students. Whether the accumulating stock will be burned or dumped into the raver, has not been ascertained.

Cholera has broken out here and good many cases are reported. Some have come to the Mission Hospital but the disease does not respond well to treatment—it seems to be an exceedingly virulent. type. It is said that most of the bolero sufferers are women but those coming to the horpitat four of five are men. The continued ry_ weather is said by the Chinese to be the cause for the spread of this dread disease.
