Sin,—In your issue of January 28 I have read with much interest an article on China's inland waterways, forming a part of Mr. H. von Heidenstam's presidential address to the Engineering Society of China at the meeting held on January 25, As it would appear by reproducing this lecture in full in your columns, that you are much interested in the problem of China's waterways, I do not doubt that you will be glad to hear something more about the matter from a side fully acquainted with the subject.
What Mr. von Heidenstam says has as a whole my fullest sympathy, since on most points he shares the opinions which I have already on
Text read from the printed page and cleaned; old type leaves the occasional error.
