Thus, during " seven months alone precious metal worth about £14,000,000 (roughly half gold and half silvery was acquired by India, although Indian products were in poor request abroad during the first five months. It is possible that the gold purchases were to cover gold previously exported. The abnormal purchases of silver to some extent were attributable to the Gandhi agitation, and possibly in some degree to the demand being stimulated by the removal of the embargo upon import.
