New Baptist Church

Hangchow, March 27.

Yesterday afternoon there was Dedicatory Service of the new Baptist Obureh, when " good Pree byterian, Dr. McGillivray, of Shanghai, preached the sermon in splendid Chinese. Representative pastors of all the missions at work im the city took part in the service, aod Christian workers, foreign and Chinese, from all the Oburehes, were present. Social meetings for mea, women, and children, are being held to-day and to-morrow, aad to-night and to-morrow night there are to be special evangelistic services. In the last few years we have seen an increasing desire by the Christians of all the missions for unity. They recognize the weakness and inefficiency divided Christendom, and they are not going to fail to unite im the clear and convincing witness of the one Church, to the one Faith. They are more and more convinced of, and impressed by, the spiritual and material waste of religious competition, and, what is beat of all, are beginning to see that each mission must own up to its full for existing i for us, the divisions here have been practically non-existent.

The officials I am told, have contributed some $800 towards. building the entrance to the church, which is to be built as a memorial to a few Chinese Baptist Chri who sacrificed their lives in famine relief work.
