ATTEMPT TO SBIZE FRENCH STEAMER

Since the wrecking of the strs. Anning and Ankang, the northern Army in Szechuan has been practically cut off from its reinforcements and supplies. Gen. Wang Ju-ching has been ordered to Szechuan, and, acting on order from Gen. Wu Pei-fu, he tried very hard to commandeer the str. Kiangteen. The agent of the China Merchants, who looks after the cargo work for this steamer, referred Gen. Wang to the Captain of the French gunboat Craonne, and the latter refused to allow the ship to be used for military purposes, and himself drafted a telegram to Gen. Wu Pei-fu informing him that the ship wag under the French flag and he must see -to it that strict neutrality be observed during the present civil warfare.
