ITALIAN KING

Italian Minister's Message to Nationals in China The Italian Minister in Peking has issued the following statement in connection with the recent tempt on the life of the King of Italy in Milan:

Twenty-eight years passed since an anarchist assassin struck down, at Monza, King Humbert, father of the reigning King. The event occurred at the time when the foreign Legations in Peking were undergoing a siege. But in spite of the siege, the news was officially, communicated by the Tsung Li Yamen to the Italian Minister, with the condolences of the Chinese government.

Those were days when a sover-that form of fanaticism, which aimed at shaking. the stability of monarchial institutions by striking at him who wore the crown, Not only kings were thus threatened. Presidents of Republics were no safer. Two of them, one in America and one in France, were murdered while in office." Even an. Empress fell beneath the assassin's knife.

The state of mind even among revolutionary masses has changed since the beginning of this century and nowadays the blow of a would be assassin at the person of the ing appears as, anachror true significance of the oxime per= petrated last Thursday in Milan and of which the victims wore not of the blood Royal, but mere spec tars, soldiers, workmen, nuns, w men and children lined up to greet the King, But Italians all feel that these cruel and stupid attempts to create panic amongst them are red by a spiteful hatred of the new order.

The first years of Fascist rule have meant for the Italian people the acceptance of a regime that asks its subjects to think first of a citizen's duties and secondly of a citizen's rights. At this price and this price only the country could be saved from the anarchy into Which it was falling after the wa The willing self-sacrifice and—the enthusiasm with which the Ital people acclaimed the new ideas and recognized their utility for the com= mon wool have given Fascism its strength. The new regime is Indeed broad based upon the people's will, And it is that which rankles in the mind of its opponents, not the yoke of an imaginary tyranny.

Jealousy of the nation's conscious power and strength provokes. th latterly attempt fo commit an old world crime.

The guiding: hand of a divine providence is manifest in the failure of any such attempt, whether direct. fed against the man whom all the world identifies with the new Italy, or against the soldier King whose escutcheon bears the emblems of the eldest among the reigning houses Dr, Tsai Yoan-pel, president of the Nationalist Board of Education, has recommended to the Nanking Government that a national museum should be established in Hangchow, Mansitat, Chang Tso-lin is reported to be negotiating for a loan of $10,000,000 with the internal taxes security but the bankers are unwilling to lend the money unless it is secured by the Customs revenue, 'THe White Russian Bishop, Innocent, according to the Chinese Papers, "has requested Marshal Chang Tso-lin to protect the property of the White Russian churches, it having been reported that the Soviet "Government is sending a new Red Bishop to China.
