There have been a number of indications recently in Hankow that there isa group who wish to challenge the terms of the Chen-O'Malley. agreement and the privileges which residents in. the ex-British Concession still enjoy. The underlying motive is of course the wish to tap possible sources of Revenue before. the various taxes have been suppressed by the Nationalist Government in favour fof a national system of revenue collection. The incidents that. hav recurred seem "somewhat ensign ficant when viewed one by one, but taken together they furnish @ good deal of food for thought by those who are trying to make a living in Hankow.
