Pills with Fictitious Labels: A
Hongkong Refutation Peking, Sept. 9.
Tha General Secretary of the International Anti-Opium Association says that a recent seizure of 60,000 "cough pills' by the Maritime Customs at a treaty port illustrates an aspect of the morphia trade which is by no means new, but the statements regarding the potency of these pills, as printed in large type on very striking covers, are not only original, but amusing, were it not that this is but one of a score of mothsds of creating and supplying the drug habit. The statement is made that these pills are a most effective remedy against scabies.
They are said to be manufactured by the Golden Star Company, Hongkong. The distributing agents of the pills are Kiu Foo & Ca. of Shanghai and Osaka. On hearing these details, the Association wrote to the Colonial Secretary of Hongkong and. to-day a reply hag been received shating that no such firm exists in the Colony.—Reuter.
