Association of Two Fo. mally Repudiated by Dr. Sun

COMMUNISM AND THE KUOMINTANG

We have received the following from Dr.. Sun Yat-sen The statement in the "North-China Daily News" of October 28 that the Kuomintang now "may be described as the Communist Party" in China and that "the Communists have captured it" is erroneous and without foundation. Dr. Sun Yat-sen is the official leader of the Kuomintang. While he is inclined to think that much of tha current criticism of communism and the communists is unduly emotional and not a little lacking in knowledge, D-. Sun has to state that he is not a communist, and that at no time hag he or any duly accredited member of the Kuomintang proposed, for less demanded, "the acceptance of communism as_ th> political faith" of the party Neither Dr. Sun nor tha Kuomintang as a party can be held responsible for the views of individual members who may profess or believe themselves to be com+ munists.

The suggestion that the Knmintang, as a party, is connected with labour unrest here 's equally unfounded. Strikes occur in China for the same reason that they do in Europe, America and elsewhere, and they will doubtless continue to be a feature of modern industrialism as long as the relation between capital and labour j retains its character of a conflict.
