Mr, C. G. Keen, handied the case for tthe police and had little difficulty in pointing out to the court that Wa was slightly underestimating his abilities in the armed robbing line.
He further brought up a case that occurred ut 1332 Yangtzepoo Road when a gang of armed robbers entered and proceeded in much the same manner as in the Baikal Road affair. After ransacking the premises in a thorough manner the Jeader, who the woman of the house Sdentified as Wu, calmly shot her husband when he remonstrated with them and further as they were ving, she alleged, Wa snatched a baby from her arms and the aby is still missing, 1 In addition she shortly after received a threatening letter from the gong demanding the sum of $7,009 for the return of the child and Wespite the police action in the matter she has not seen her baby ince.
1 She had no difficulty: in picking Wu out of a crowd of 18 Chinese at the police station and was positive in her identity, Wu's only defence was that he took not the slightest part in the Affair, that he was possi time and was attracted b and went to "look-soe"" with the result that he was implicated by the Police, whereas he had nothing to do with the matter, But under adroit cro, by the Assistant Police Prosecutor he changed. his story somewhat, briefly to the effect that he "may have locked in at the door but noth Ing else."
1o'Mr. Keen then asked how much had received for looking. in' the itor and Wu answered "Only 120 gappers," with an evident show of Biseust' at" such low remuneration.
"The wife, however, was positive fu her recojenition of the man and his companions lost no time in fruitting that he was the ring Header. "Wu delivered an impassion-td story to the Court that he was ertainiy a poor armed robber to have received such small Toot from liwo alleged murders and the court inclined to agree with him.
