France and Gold Loan Issue

Paris, Jan, 14. the recent British note demanding The French Government's reply to

the repayment of French war loans as well as the payment of interest thereon in gold franes has been drafted and will be presented to the British authorities within the next few days, It transpires that the reply is just like the one to the former British note, a formal refusal to enderta the proposal since it would consti tute discrimination in favour of British bondholders to the disadvantage of others. The reply however offers, it is understood, to submit the matter to a special interrational arbitration court. in request for information. Some of thors gave the figures of only' legal imports, not referring to the seizure of illicit drugs. Other countries. lumped the figures for their tropic cal and European territories gether, while information from South American and Central American states was almost entirely absent.

The Council of the League has adopted the: Board's suggestions that it should be allowed to recom: mend an embargo on imports of drugs from offending countries; that the origin of illicit drugs that are seized should be ed to tha Board.—Reuter.
