Sin—The City Government wants to Increase their motor-ear licence rates, Perhaps they have cause to.

But what about assisting. their licensees in the matter of obtaining or. renewal of licences. At present, it means travelling four tines Sin—May I crave a little of your valuable space In order to add my grouse against the proposed increase in Shanghai City Government licence fees, T feel sure that this new imposition, coupled with the treatment one receives when applying for licence renewal, will have the effect of "Killing the Goose that lays the Golden Eggs."

Much advertising has been done urging people to purchase lottery tickets, telling them that the money realised was to. be used for the building of highways etc. perhaps they made a mistake, or maybe we did not read the advertising properly.

The Chinese officials responsible for this increase mention the difference in mileage between Setilement roads, and Chinese roads, but he fails to mention the difference in their condition. We are able to travel safely on the Settlement roads all the year round, while the existing Chinese roads are almost impassable for six months in the year, unless one is the possessor of a heavy high-powered car.

for one, am not applying for licence renewal, nor am I. purchasing any more lottery tickets, and 1 hope there will be many who will follow I my footsteps.
