Budget Reductions Necessitated by Earthquake Tokio, Nev. 3.
The estimates for the present fiscal year have been cut down owing to the decrease in the national revenues caused by the recent earthquake disaster. The estimates decided upon at to-day' Cabinet meeting are in the region 1 of Yen 1,222,000,000, which shows a decrease of Yen 157,000,000 as compared with the estimates fixed prior to the earthquake.
The decrease represents retrenchment on naval expenses of Yen 37,009,000, on the army at Yen 7,0¢0,000 and on the Home Department of Yen 13,000,000. Discussion of the Budget for the next fiscal year, was then begun by the Cabinet. It is reported thay the Finance Department has under consideration a plan to effect an extreme financial retrenchment, fixing the Budget at Yea 1,204,000,000 and to reduce by 50 per cent. the ordinary expenses throughout all Departments.—Eastern News Agen Dr. H.
