Samagaga Rubber Ce. Ltd

The nineteenth annual general qecting of shareholders in the Samagaga Rubber Ca., Ltd., was held. fon December 17, at the head office, 36 Peking Road. Mr. L. E. Canning presided and there were also present Messrs. A. K. Craddock and W.

King (directors), D. M. Butt (for the secretaries), and other share. holders, the attendance represent ing 180,575 shares, 'The notice convening the meeting. and the auditors' report having been read, the Chairman said:—The report and accounts for the past year have been in your bande for.a week and, with your permission, I will take them as read. They are presented in the same form a3 previous years and, though in the main they call for no particular comment, there are one or two points I should like to enlarge upon. You will have noticed that, under the headings of "Weeding Drainage," there is mention of two schemes, one for the clean weeding of the estate and ne for improving the drainage. "These schemes, which were only formulated in September, will be worked upon as Inbour becomes available, though at the close of the financial year, now 24 months ago, they had not' been commenced. "It is not proposed that this work be rushed, even if labour for the whole could be procured at once, as it all requires carefal supervision. In fact, it is proposed to spread the work' over a period of throe years. Briefly the weeding scheme is dication of post, in part of the estate, been kept down by planting cover crop of mosa, This method, known as the "Klowong" has proved expensive of uke due to the estate not having been cleaned in the past, on the score of the expense involved at a time when funds were not available for the purpose.

The drainage scheme will make the estate independent of the Government canals on the boundaries of the estate. The latter, being ce structed for the drainage of adjacent paddy fidds, are at certain times unsuitable for use by our estate, Tt is hoped that the ox: pense of constructing these drains which will have a water-gate under our own control direct to the Samagaga River, will be more than offset by the greater freedom of thr estate from flood and its resultant which have always been source of trouble, owing to the proximity of the estate to the river and the past reliance upon the Government canals for main drainage.
