London, Mar. 10, The President of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce has issued a statement in which he expresses the opinion that no further effective steps enn be taken on behalf of Lancashire in respect to the proposed Indian cotton tari.
While they were profoundly dis. mayed by the increased duty, he said, they could not fail to recognize the gesture of the Indian Government in proposing an additional five per cent. on non-British piece goods although it did not suffice to compensate Lancashire for the disadvantage of the general increase,
