Piracies in Chinese Waters

Shipowners' Responsibility for Compensation to Dead and Disabled Officers London, May 5.

In the House of Commons to-day, Sit H. Kingsley Wood, Unionist Member for West Woolwich, asked for information with regard to the anti-piratical measures in Chinese waters and compensation to dead and disabled British officers.

Mr. J. H. Thomas, the Secretary of State for the Colonies, replied that he was awaiting the report which would doubtless deal with the question of compensation and the detailed steps taken. He said that British owners of vessels concerned had not been approached by the Colonial Office on the subject of their responsibility for" compensation.

Viscount, Curzon, Unionist M ber for South Battersea ced whether Mr. Thomas was able to do anything to increase the use of wireless on ships in Chinese waters.

'Mr. 'Thomas' said" that the Aificulty was being considered in all its widest aspects.—Reuter.
